    The George A. Smathers Libraries seek a creative and service-oriented liaison librarian at the Health Science Center Library. The Health Science Librarian provides reference assistance and consultations, instruction, outreach, and collection management for the entire College of Pharmacy and the department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics in the College of Medicine. This 12-month, tenure-track faculty position serves as a member of the Biomedical and Health Information Services (BHIS) team, and provides services in a variety of modes (in person, phone, email, "house calls"). The position is responsible for special projects as assigned, such as collection reviews, development of web-based resources, and service evaluation. The library encourages staff participation in reaching management decisions and consequently the Health Science Librarian will serve on various committees and teams. To support all students and faculty and foster excellence in a diverse and global society, the Health Science Librarian will be expected to include individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences, races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, and perspectives in work activities. The Health Science Librarian will pursue professional development opportunities, including research, publication, and professional service activities in order to meet library-wide criteria for tenure and promotion.


    • Provides liaison librarian services to the students, faculty, and staff in the entire College of Pharmacy (COP), which consists of five departments. Liaison services include instruction, consultation, collection development, and other client-centered services as appropriate
    • Provides liaison librarian services to the students, faculty, and staff in the College of Medicine's (COM) Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics
    • Provides on-call, by appointment, and e-mail reference services to faculty, students, and staff of the University of Florida Health Science Center
    • Participates in instruction programs using traditional classroom and active learning methods and innovative educational technologies
    • Works in collaboration with COP and COM faculty in the development of new and adaptation of existing curricula, with a particular focus on supporting COP's extensive distance education programs
    • Participates in the collection management program. Selects and evaluates subject-based materials related to liaison assignment and works with faculty in selecting materials to support their academic and research programs
    • Participates actively in the development, selection, and evaluation of web resources for subject guides and other client services
    • Participates in planning, policy formation, and departmental decisions related to health science services, collections, and new technologies
    • Actively serves on committees and in a team-based environment
    • Performs scholarly research and provides service at the institutional and professional levels as related to assignment and in accordance with tenure and promotion criteria



    • Masters degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school or relevant advanced degree
    • Strong commitment to client-focused service
    • An interest in providing information services to, and collaborating with, clinicians and health science students, educators, and researchers
    • Strong commitment to or potential for innovative and collaborative instruction
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
    • Ability to work effectively within a diverse client community including faculty, researchers, clinicians, students (professional, graduate), administration, staff, and the general public
    • Understanding of and enthusiasm for reference resources and services
